Abbeville Area Medical Center staff recently supported the Bags of Blessings program with contributions of food and money. The program provides nutritious, non-perishable, easy to prepare snacks and meals to children in need to ensure they get enough food on weekends to avoid hunger when they can’t depend on school meals.
Bags of Blessings was started by Abbeville resident MaryAnn Nickles several years ago and is run by community volunteers using donations. A bag of food is sent home with students who are identified by teachers in area schools. Approximately 50-60 bags are prepared and distributed per week.
