| | Helping Our Community Shaggin’ For a Cause
At Health Related Home Care, we believe in assisting our patients in their total recovery. Sometimes financial obligations can hinder a person’s healing process. In order to help those we serve, we planned and hosted our first ever fundraiser called Sip.Shag.Support. on Saturday evening, August 18th, 2007. The night featured heavy hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction with items donated by many local businesses and individuals. There were nearly 200 people in attendance who danced the night away to music by The Out-of-Towners Band from Woodruff, SC. Many were there representing local Shag Clubs. Of numerous hotly contested items available in the silent auction, one was a one week long vacation package to North Myrtle Beach won by Bryan and Laura Baughman of Abbeville. The event, which raised more than $7,000.00 for people in the Lakelands, was made possible by many local donors. Platinum Sponsors were those who gave $500 or more and included Advanced Biomechanical Solutions of Greenwood, Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home of Abbeville, Pal-Med of West Columbia, and Vance Fish of Greenwood. Many local businesses also contributed generously.
Since 1999, Health Related Home Care has managed the Second Chances fund which assists our patients in the event that they are unable to afford certain expenses. Past expenditures include the purchase of prescription medications, medical equipment and supplies, eye glasses, the addition of wheelchair ramps onto homes, helping to defray costly medical and utility bills and many other odds and ends. Because our nurses visit people in their homes, many times we see first hand the need to assist members of the communities which we serve: Abbeville County, Greenwood County, Laurens County, McCormick County and Saluda County.
To date, the Second Chances Fund has spent over $5,200.00 on medications alone. With the funds raised by the Sip.Shag.Support., Health Related Home Care will be able to fulfill many more needs of our patients.
Event Coordinator Kimberly Thomasson stated, “I am thrilled to see such a large turnout for our first ever event. So many times people are asked to donate to causes, but at Health Related Home Care, we use the funds to assist people right here in our own backyard. You don’t have to look far to see those in need and the generous donations of all of our sponsors helps us to continue to make a difference.”
