Abbeville Area Medical Center (AAMC) received stellar results on its bi-annual Employee Satisfaction Survey. The survey was conducted by Avatar International, a research and consulting firm specializing in patient, physician, governance and employee surveys.
The survey consisted of 45 questions and 82 percent of the hospital’s employees completed the survey.
“Favorable survey responses,” or questions that were answered with “Strongly Agree” or “Agree,” rose from 87 percent in 2010 to 91 percent in 2012. When benchmarked against the 250 organizations in Avatar’s database, AAMC ranked in the 99th percentile of employee survey results.
Sixteen areas were covered in the survey that included items such as patient focus, department leadership and continuous improvement. Of the sixteen areas, all were considered strengths, which meant that more than 70 percent of AAMC’s employees answered “strongly agree” or “agree” to each question.
In the 2012 survey, 99 percent of employees either agreed or strongly agreed to the questions, “I get a very strong sense of pride and accomplishment from the work I do here,” “Patient safety is important to everyone at AAMC,” and “Customer satisfaction is a priority in my department.”
When benchmarked against the other hospitals in Avatar’s database, AAMC’s results are equally as impressive.
In the Departmental Leadership category, AAMC scored a 92 percent favorable rating compared to a 73 percent rating of other hospitals in the database.
“I believe these high numbers indicate our employees feel department leadership is strong and we work together as a team for the good of our patients,” stated Rich Osmus, CEO of AAMC.
In the Accountability area (employees being held responsible for doing their jobs as well as their behavior), there was a 90 percent favorable rating as compared to the database’s 70 percent. In Community Image, AAMC scored a 95 percent favorable rating as compared to the 75 percent rating of other hospitals in the database.
“This tells me that our own employees feel AAMC is an excellent facility and that our employees take great pride in providing care to our community,” said Osmus.
And in Recognition and Feedback, AAMC scored an 89 percent favorable rating as compared to 65 percent rating of all other hospitals.
“I am very proud of our hospital family,” stated Osmus. “We work hard to provide a positive work environment for our employees and our excellent survey results reflect this. We also believe that having engaged, satisfied employees translates to a better quality of care for our patients, so this is a win-win situation for both AAMC and our patients.” |
