| If you’re looking for a fun-filled evening that benefits a wonderful cause, the Abbeville Area Medical Center Foundation’s annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner and Auction is where you need to be!
Hosted by the AAMC Foundation Board of Directors, the 2009 event will be held on Friday, March 20th at Erskine College’s Moffatt Dining Hall. The evening begins with hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction from 6:00-8:00pm, dinner at 7:00pm and live auction at 8:00pm.
You never know which “celebrities” you’ll rub elbows with while you’re there…from Fred Flintstone to Elvis to the Lil’ Rascals, we’ve had them all!
How does it all work? People who sponsor tables choose a theme, get their own “celebrity waiters” (dressing them according to their theme) and decorate their table! Guests are also asked to participate by dressing to fit their table’s theme. Waiters raise money by collecting tips for serving a three-course meal and, if the price is right, might be coaxed into performing zany antics for big tips. This year we’ll be starting table challenges as well.
Anyone who plans to attend the event may want to come prepared with some extra cash, because silverware, napkins, drinks and maybe even the guests’ dinner could be withheld by the waiter until a tip is given.
Chances to win a $500.00 Cash Shopping Spree will also be on sale for $2.00 each or three for $5.00. See any Foundation Board member or contact the Foundation office. The lucky winner will be announced at the Celebrity Waiter event and does not have to be present to win.
The Auction committee has collected a number of unique items that will be included in both live and silent auctions. There’s definitely something for everyone!
For the traveler, there will be a 4-night/5-day home rental in Edisto Island. For the sports fanatic, a variety of autographed sports items. For the lady, there's jewelry. Other items going on the auction block include rugs by Milliken, Mohawk and Rugs of Distinction, home accessories, dining and food certificates, golf packages to area courses, shag lessons, and a potting bench and glider from Overhold Wood ’N Crafts – just to name a few!
Back by popular demand, Roddy Gray will serve as emcee for the evening and Allen Gambrel as the live auctioneer so be prepared for more laughs…and to spend even more money! In 2000, the event’s first year, just over $7,000 was raised. Last year over $26,000 was raised. Proceeds from the 2009 event will be used to purchase eight portable protein level machines for home health, a cell washer for our lab, a barium swallow chair for radiology, two portable lipid profile machines for wellness, three vital statistics machines for the floor, operating room and emergency department, and two glucose recorders and supplies for our diabetes program. This adds up to a goal of $55,400.00!
Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased from Foundation Board members or by contacting the Foundation office at (864) 366-3364.
